Redirect Your Worries - Oncord Feature Highlight

Did you know that if you change your page names/URL’s, Oncord will automatically set up a redirect to the new page URL?

This is an issue that we found some of our clients had encountered with other Content Management Systems. We found that when our clients wanted to experiment with changing the names and URL’s of pages on their website, old links from previous email marketing and social media campaigns were sending their clients to a 404 error page.

The Current Issue

If you change your ‘Blog’ page to ‘News’ in another CMS, all of the previous links that took the customer to the page named ‘Blog’ would now lead to nowhere, as the page wouldn’t exist.

How Oncord Fixes It

We solved this issue by placing in a redirect, so if your customers are reading an old marketing email, blog post or social media link, the old URL will automatically redirect to the new URL, ensuring the customer always goes where they need to be!

This is also great for SEO purposes as you can freely update your page names and URL’s without being punished for having broken links that lead to 404 errors on your website. The less 404 pages Google runs into, the better your site will rank and the more positive experiences your customers will have.

As an additional feature, you can also set up automatic redirects through Oncord if you change your main URL, or if you are changing systems that add code to the end of your URL.

For example, some CMS’s place in “.html” or “/index.php” to certain pages on your website. If you are moving away from these conventions (Hot tip: You should. They are bad for SEO!) you can set up redirection rules in Oncord to make sure your new website doesn’t have any broken links to it!
