How to Verify Your Domain for Facebook Using a Meta Tag
Domain verification allows Meta (Facebook) to confirm you’re the legitimate owner of a website. This verification is crucial for several reasons:
- Grants control over conversion events: It enables you to determine which events on your website, such as purchases or sign-ups, are eligible for tracking and advertising purposes.
- Manages link editing permissions: Verified domains grant you the authority to control who can edit links associated with your ads and business page.
- Improves ad performance: Some Meta advertising features may become unavailable without domain verification.
This guide shows how to verify your domain by adding a <meta> tag to your website design within Oncord.
Step 1: Copy The Required Meta Tag
- Sign in to your Meta Business Manager.
- Go to Business Settings > Brand Safety and Suitability > Domains.
- Click the "Add" button on the right-hand side of the page, and select "Create a new domain".
- Enter your domain name (eg. yourcompany.com) and click Add.
- Select the option "Add a meta-tag to your HTML source code" to verify your domain.
- Click the meta-tag shown to copy it to your clipboard.
Step 2: Add the Meta Tag to Your Oncord Website
To ensure the tag can be detected by Facebook / Meta, you'll need to paste it into your website's design theme - specifically inside the <head> tag.
- Within Oncord, navigate to Dashboard > Website > Designs.
- Click the design you're using to edit it.
- Click the "SOURCE" button located in the left menu, to view the source code of your website design.
- Paste the code after / below the <head> tag.
- Click the "Save" button located at the top left of the screen.
Step 3: Complete Verification
Return to Meta Business Manager to complete verification. If everything has been set up correctly, you’ll see a success message and your domain will show as Verified.
