Scanning a Business Card To Create a Contact

You can create a contact from a business card instead of typing the details in by hand. Scan the card with your camera or upload a photo, then ask the AI Assistant to read the card and fill in the contact form.

Before You Begin

  • You need access to create contacts in Oncord.
  • Use a clear photo of the business card.

Open the New Contact Form

  • Go to Dashboard > Customers > Contacts.
  • Click New Contact.

The New Contact form opens with a Scan Business Card icon in the header.

Scan or Upload the Business Card

  • Click the Scan Business Card icon.
  • Line up the business card so the text is readable.
  • Click Capture.

On a phone or tablet, Oncord tries to use the rear camera. If the camera cannot open, or if you are using a computer without a camera, Oncord opens your files so you can choose an image instead.

To upload an existing photo instead, click Choose Image and select the photo from your device.

Review and Save

  • The AI Assistant opens with the photo attached and this message prepared: "Create a new contact from the information in this image".
  • Send the message.
  • Review the details the assistant adds to the form, such as name, company, email, and phone number.
  • Click Create Contact.

The assistant fills in the form for you to review. It does not save the contact on its own unless Submit Automatically is turned on.

Tips and Notes

  • Take the photo in good light and keep the card flat so the text is easy to read.
  • If the card has details on both sides, scan the side with the main contact details first.
  • Some fields may need a small correction before saving.

Troubleshooting

The camera does not open

Your browser may be blocking camera access, or the device may not have a camera available. Allow camera access for your Oncord site and try again, or click Choose Image to upload a photo instead.

Some details are missing or wrong

The assistant reads the printed text on the card, so a blurry photo, small print, or an unusual layout can affect the result. Retake the photo in better light, or fill in the missing fields by hand before saving.
