Testing and Troubleshooting OpenAI Ads Tracking

Once you have set up the OpenAI Ads Pixel, conversion tracking or e-commerce tracking on your Oncord website, it is worth confirming that events are being recorded before you rely on the data. This article covers two ways to check your setup, and the problems that come up most often.

Before You Begin

Complete the relevant setup first:

Test with Google Tag Manager Preview Mode

Use this method if you installed the pixel through Google Tag Manager. It shows which tags fired on the page and what values they sent, before you publish anything.

  • Log in to your Google Tag Manager account.
  • Select your container.
  • Click Preview.
  • Enter your Oncord website URL and connect Tag Assistant.
  • Complete the action you want to test on your website, such as submitting a form or placing an order.
  • In Tag Assistant, select the event in the left panel.
  • Confirm that your OpenAI Ads tag appears under Tags Fired.
  • Open the Variables tab to check the values the tag sent.

Note:
Preview Mode shows the unpublished version of your container. Tags that work in Preview Mode do not reach real visitors until you click Submit and publish.

Check the Event Stream in OpenAI Ads Manager

The Event Stream shows events as OpenAI receives them, which confirms the whole path end to end.

  • Open OpenAI Ads Manager.
  • Go to Conversions.
  • Open the Event Stream tab.
  • Select the relevant pixel.
  • Click Start polling.
  • Complete the action you want to test on your website.
  • Confirm that the event appears with the expected values.

The Event Stream displays the event data, such as amount, currency and type. The Event ID is used separately for identification and deduplication, so it may not appear inside the Event Data JSON section.
